Overview
With the Royal Himalayan Holidays’ Three Pass EBC trek of 24 days, you’ll be able to trek around the entire Everest region. Furthermore, you will be facing three high-altitude mountain passes; the Kongma La (5,545m/18,192ft), the Cho La (5,420m/17,782ft), and the Renjo La (5,345m/ 17,536ft). As well as visiting Everest Base Camp (EBC), Gokyo Lake, and seeing two sunrise views from Kala Patthar and Gokyo Ri! The Three Pass EBC trek is graded as hard and stamina training beforehand is highly recommended.
Combing the best parts of the traditional Everest Base Camp trek and the Gokyo Lake trek, the Three Pass EBC trek of 24 days is the best trek to see the entire Everest region in on trekking package. Starting off from Kathmandu, a short flight takes us straight to Lukla, the world’s 38th-highest airport! Here is where we’ll meet up with our porter team, and hold a final gear and equipment check. We’ll spend the first 8 days trekking toward Chukhung (4730m/15,518ft). During this trekking period, we’ll be holding two acclimatization days and the third one at Chukhung. The risk of getting Acute Mountain Syndrome (AMS) is very real as we’ll be trekking to altitudes above 5,000m (16,404ft)! After acclimatizing at Chukhung we’ll be crossing our first mountain pass of the Three Pass EBC trek, the Kongma La at 5,545m (18,192ft). Crossing the pass takes us back on the traditional EBC trail and to Lobuche (4,910m/16,109ft). The views of Mt Amadablam (6,812m/22,349ft) are extraordinary from here and we’ll spend some time to admire these. Everest Base Camp is just a day’s trek away and exactly where we go next during the Three Pass EBC trek. We’ll trek to Gorakshep (5,170m/16,962ft), check in at the guesthouse, and prepare for a hike to Everest Base Camp at 5,364m (17,598ft). It’s a great feeling of accomplishment standing at Everest Base Camp and seeing the mighty Khumbu Glacier running through the Himalayas. The next early morning we make a short hike to Kala Patthar. From this hill, the views of Mt Everest are said to be the best and in combination with seeing the sunrise over the mountains just adds to the value! We continue the Three Pass EBC trek and trek toward our second mountain pass. It’ll take a day of trekking until reaching Dzonghla village (4,830m/15,847ft) and the Cho La Pass at 5,420m (17,782ft). We’ll cross the pass during the next day’s morning and head for Tangnak. Being officially in the western part of the Everest region means we have halfway completed the Three Pass EBC trek! Another day of trekking and we’ll reach Gokyo. Located just at the shores of one of the 19 holy Gokyo Lakes, this mountain village is absolutely amazing. Exploring around the lake, one of the highest freshwater lakes, and taking in the views is how we’ll spend the remainder of the day. The next day early morning, Royal Himalayan Holidays takes you up to Gokyo Ri (5,360m/17,585ft) from where you’ll get to see 360° views of the Himalayas. These include views of; the Mahalangur Himalayan range along with Mt. Everest (8,848m/29,028ft), Mt Lhotse (8,516m/27,940ft), Mt Cho Oyu (8,188m/26,864ft), and Mt Makalu (8,485m/27,838ft)! We make our way back down and trek towards the last of the Three Pass EBC trek’s mountain passes, the Renjo La at 5,345m (17,536ft). After crossing the pass and reaching Lumde village it’ll take us 3 days to trek back to Lukla via Namche Bazaar.
At Lukla, we hold a celebratory party to celebrate the success of completing the Three Pass EBC trek and prepare for our flight back to Kathmandu the next morning. Book the Three Pass EBC trek of 24 days with Royal Himalayan Holidays and see the entire Everest region in one trekking package! This trek is recommended during spring or fall/autumn, and cannot be done during the winter as the mountain passes will be inaccessible due to blizzards or heavy snow.
